HOUSE EXTENSION

Fisher's Brae, Coldingham

This elegant Grade B listed cottage was separated from its long south facing garden by a dilapidated lean-to out-building and did not provide quite enough living space to comfortably accommodate the frequent visits of our client's family.

The project involved the removal of the existing outbuilding and formation of an extension which would reconcile level differences in the site and provide a direct connection between house and garden.

A new pavilion sits at an angle to the main house, addressing the rear garden square-on. The adjacent wing houses a bedroom and en suite and with its gable elevation to the front continuing the typical urban pattern of the street.

The levels step up from the kitchen to living room to garden, where a new paved terrace provides a new external “room”.

The new, clean-lined, un-cluttered and top-lit kitchen provides a pivotal link between the formal rooms of the old house and the less constrained volume of the new living space.
