BACKGROUND

Chris studied at Edinburgh College of Art and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, qualifying as an Architect in 2006. As a student, he enjoyed extensive periods working and living in East Coast USA and more recently in Denmark, which provided the perfect opportunity to travel throughout Scandinavia, Estonia and Russia.

Having gained invaluable experience in commercial practice, Chris worked as a sole practitioner before forming Matson Henderson Architects with Andrew in August 2007.

Chris is a member of the Scottish Ecological Design Association and encourages the promotion of all aspects of sustainable design.

SECTOR EXPERIENCE

Excellent track record of adding value to commercial and residential plots. Notable successes include:

• Obtaining Planning Permission for a substantial mixed use development at Willowbank Road, Aberdeen for Kilmartin Group.

• Achieving a 30% Increase in the developable floor space of Blinkbonny Farm Steading, Currie for Musto Properties, all within the parameters of the existing building’s form on a sensitive site located with the city’s Green Belt

• Increasing the density of a site in Fife from Outline Consent for 2 houses to Full Planning Permission for 3 houses for Musto Properties.

Architect for works to public areas of Scottish Courts Service properties to ensure compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

Architect for a private sector developer of new build Medical Centres, including negotiations with Local Authorities and end-user liaison.

Part of the site based design team for the £40m refurbishment and redevelopment of Glencorse Barracks, Midlothian.

Architect within the design team responsible for several Crown Estate developments at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, Kinloss and Lossiemouth Air Bases and Imphal Barracks, York.

Provided technical and detailed design for various Housing Association clients in new build developments including 6no. new-build houses for Haig Homes, and a flatted development of 32 residential units for Bield Housing Association.

Extensive experience in Design & Build procurement with clients including Carillion, Amec, and Skanska.
