STEADING CONVERSION Blinkbonny Farm, Currie
Our client bought this collection of derelict farm buildings with Planning Permission for conversion into 5 new dwellings.
Our initial remit was primarily to develop the project to detailed design stage and obtain Building Warrant, but also to review the proposed layouts with a view to simplifying the build and if possible increasing habitable floor area. It was quickly established that by judicious alterations to the building's roof form, minor changes to internal floor levels and a fundamental reappraisal of internal division walls and circulation areas, a substantial amount of usable space could be freed-up in each house.
The building is located within Edinburgh's Green-Belt, therefore a new Planning Consent was required. The details of the revised design were developed in close consultation with the Planning Authority and the views and suggestions of the local Community Council were sought and incorporated into the design.
The final proposals respond sensitively to the scale and form of the existing buildings and also to the wider site and adjacent properties.
